Review: Together with Alfie Boe and Michael Ball

Alfie Boe and Michael Ball have some of the UK’s best-loved voices so, as a musical theatre nerd, I was excited to see them live in their show Together.

Tonight was the tour’s opening night in Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena and it didn’t disappoint. The show mixed Boe and Ball classics such as Love Changes Everything and Bring Him Home, which stunned with their technical mastery, with more interesting choices including Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years, which I loved.

The running order also included James Bond theme tunes and Elvis medleys with Suspicious Minds encouraging the audience to their feet. Having never seen either Boe or Ball live before, I just loved hearing their voices in duet as well as their spot-on solos. Boe’s Quadrophenia was another personal highlight showing his vocal range and power.

Seasoned professionals, Boe and Ball have a great rapport which delighted tonight’s audience. Their cheeky jokes go down well with the audience, who were made up with a mixture of ages.

They were backed by a trio of fabulous singers and an awesome orchestra with instruments ranging from the bass guitar to violins to the double bass.

Together was a three-generation night out for my family as I went with my grandmothers and mum. We all left thrilled, which is testament to a truly good show.

Thank you Ball and Boe.
